Infragistics NetAdvantage - I really don’t like it…
Just to vent some of my frustration. Infragistics is a real piece of crap. If you even think about using it for your web project please stop right now. Get yourself Telerik controls and meet your deadlines, go home happy and proud of your work, kiss your wife and hug your kids.
But, if you enjoy debugging weird errors in somebody else’s code, horrible documentation, emailing to a non-existent support and reading support forums devoid of any helpful answers, go ahead and get Infragistics. And you know, while you are at it, sign up for an AOL account as well.
Just to make sure my message is clear – I hate Infragistics with passion. Infragistics is the Visual Source Safe of web controls for asp.net.
UPDATE:
Downgraded the ranting level to YELLOW.

I tried Infragistics last month and shortly thereafter I developed a really bad case of bleeding hemorroids which forced me to buy bew underwear on a daily basis! I am wondering if Infragistics could be in cahoots with Fruit of the Loom? Anyone have a similar experience?
God bless.
Couldnt agree more. I use to actually like using Infragastics stuff, but over time the quality of the controls has gone down at a rapid pace.
The final straw was trying to get 2006V3 to install on Vista. I just about managed it on my x86 box, tried it on x64 and didnt work. Their support was second to none and exactly what I’d come to expect, use Windows XP. lol
I suppose that is one way to avoid developers running into problems, stop them using it alltogether!
Even when it did work I too had what you might call weird errors.
Bought a Telerik subscription and I am very impressed. I would recommend it to anyone. Installed on Vista no problem, support seems solid and the controls, well they make life easy.
I just HAD to use your rant level rating system for one of my posts.
Excelent.
BTW… why no blogroll love for the rob-meister?
;-}
oh man this is hilarious!!!
In my frustration, I Googled “Infragistics Documentation Sucks ” and found your site….
made me laugh out loud, which was a nice break from spending 4 long days in the infragistics-hell-pit-of-despair-api trying to find a solution to my problem
they do suck hard and long…
so does their support
I can’t even get them to let me purchase it! I want to upgrade from an old version, so it means contacting support (there is no upgrade option from the site). We used the demo versions and put the controls in throughout the application, and are ready to now deploy it to the customer site. I have spent SEVEN DAYS trying to get someone from support to actually process my credit card with a purchase order. Sales doesn’t even answer their emails! As a result we are ready to go live today, and I have a stupid “unlicensed” message coming up on a commercial application. I am tempted to go through and strip the whole damn lot out and replace it with a different set of controls.
Hehe!
I also Googled “Infragistics Documentation Sucks”..
nice to find out that there is still a few normal persons in this world
What are you guys talking about! Infragistics rocks! I love infragistics! I’m an independent contractor working on a project that standardized on Infragistics Web controls. I’ve spent countless hours seeking workarounds for Infragistics bugs, working with their support department, scanning the forumns, studying their thin unintuative documentation, and chukling at their knowledge base articles. All in all, you would not believe how many extra hours I’ve been able to bill because of Infragistics Web Controls! Thanks Infragistics!
(For any Infragistics staff reading this post I feel I must inform you that the above paragraph is known as ’sarcasm’. I actually hate your controls. And I hate you personally. And my wife hates you too.)
I’m doing QA support and the Devs are telling me that 80% of the bugs I have logged (Windows app) are Infragistic’s ‘features’.
This number of course, does not include the exceptions
being thrown about like its rice at a wedding.
